Is Coconut Oil Bad for Oily Skin?

Let’s get it out: COCONUT OIL IS NOT BAD FOR OILY SKIN. COCONUT OIL IS NOT BAD FOR OILY SKIN. COCONUT OIL IS NOT BAD FOR OILY SKIN.

There’s lots of ways to use an oil, and coconut oil used in products as an ingredient alongside other ingredients can be INCREDIBLE, non-pore clogging, and actually really amazing for oily skin. Especially refined coconut oil which is always in a liquid state (who knew the non-virgin one would be great too?!).

In lesser proportions, coconut oil has these incredible skin benefits:

  1. Anti-inflammatory
  2. Anti-bacterial
  3. Prevents water loss in the skin

That being said, using coconut oil straight out of the bottle on your skin OR hair can always lead to issues. Coconut oil is a very slow-penetrating oil, so whatever you have on your skin will stay there for a whileeeee once you’ve slathered it on. So let’s save the extra virgin coconut oil for baking vegan brownies and reach for a product with coconut oil as an ingredient instead.
