Polka dots are cute. They're always in style. Skin spots- not so much. Whether yours are from the sun, handed down to you from your parents, or a result of scarring from acne- they are no fun at all. If you ask a skin specialist, they will tell you a dozen ways to lighten those spots, and those ways will all break the bank! There's chemical peels (which are probably the most affordable they can offer), microdermabrasion, micro-needling, and the list goes on and on.
So how can we lighten those spots without spending our hard earned cash?? Here are 3 cheap, natural ways that are sure to give you results. As always, proceed with caution. More is not necessarily better. Don't do all three of these in one day- oh gosh, please don't! Realize always that your skin is your biggest organ and it will heal itself and work with you if you love it and treat it with kindness<3
1. Lemon Juice: lemon juice is naturally a "bleaching" agent. Without the nasty bleach aspect, of course. Using it can help reduce those dark spots, helping even out your skin and lighten it naturally to a more even skin tone. Be careful using lemon juice, however, as it makes your skin more sensitive to the sun! ALWAYS moisturize and use sunscreen with this magic potion:)
How: rub freshly squeezed (MUST be fresh!) lemon juice on your dark spots and leave the juice on for about 10 minutes. If your face starts tingling too much, rinse off and pat dry. This treatment should be repeated three times a week for maximum effectiveness.
2. Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV): ACV works on skin spots by speeding up your skin's natural "shedding" process. That means it can help even out skin tone by helping the spots produce new baby skin faster.
How: Using a cotton ball, dab the vinegar directly on your skin spots and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing. Make sure you are using RAW vinegar, as it has a lot more effectiveness than the processed ones.
3. Red Onion: this one doesn't smell quite as nice as a lemon, but the acid in onions has natural skin-lightening properties (almost like a chemical peel, but WAY cheaper).
How: Put the red onion in a blender and use a cotton ball to dab the juice from it onto your skin. Leave it on for 10 minutes and repeat daily.
Hope these skin lightening tricks help some of you! Leave comments below and tell me which method you've tried or are going to try. My personal favorite is the ACV, because it's so easy and I always have a bottle in my bathroom. Easy, breezy, skin-spot free!
